Importance of Punjab TET

PSTET which is an acronym of Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted by the Department of State Council of Educational Research & Training know as SCERT Punjab every year.

The National Council of Teacher Education NCTE laid down minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in classes I to VIII.

One of the essential qualifications is Teacher Eligibility Test which will be conducted by the appropriate Government according to guidelines issued by NCTE. So, no candidate can apply for the state government teaching post for classes I-VIII without qualifying Punjab TET. So let's start with PSTET Syllabus 2018.

PSTET Syllabus 2018

There are two types of papers in Punjab TET. Paper 1 is for the primary level (I-V) while Paper 2 is for the elementary level (V-VIII) teaching posts. The syllabus of Paper 1 and paper 2 follow as:

PSTET Exam Dates 2018-19

The examination schedule for PSTET 2018 is given in the table below. The official notification like every year will come in the month of July. Candidates can apply within one month after the notification arrives.

Candidates will be able to download admit cards a week before the exam. The examination is likely to be done at the end of September and the result will be out in the month of October.

PSTET Notification 2018-19

PSTET notification has not come yet. As soon, the notification will be released, you will be able to check notification. As we discussed above, the notification will come in the month of July only on the official website. You will also be provided with the link to the official Punjab TET 2018 notification here.

PSTET Online Apply 2018

Punjab TET online application form will be available after the notification arrives. Eligible and interested candidates shall apply online for the PSTET- I or PSTET- II or Both, at the website www.tetpunjab.com.
How To Apply:
  • Step 1: To apply for Punjab TET, first visit the official website www.tetpunjab.com.
  • Step 2: After that, Find the link for PSTET Application form 2018 and fill all details.
  • Step 3: Upload your recent photograph and signature (Size less than 1 MB).
  • Step 4: Review your application form and make payment using debit/credit card, NET Banking or Bank Challan. 
  • Step 5: After 48 hours the fee status will be updated in candidate logins. Download Confirmation page for the future reference. 
  • Step 6: Print your admit card when available and affix your recent photograph and attested it from any Gazetted Officer. 
The candidates who are interested in both papers have no need to apply separately, only single registration is sufficient.

PSTET Admit Card Download PDF

The Punjab TET admit card will be downloadable before 1 week of the date of the examination. The candidate will take the print out of admit card for Paper 1 and Paper 2 separately. Candidates are requested to visit official website  www.tetpunjab.com to download admit card. Finally, print your admit card when available and affix your recent photograph and attested it from any Gazetted Officer.

PSTET Eligibility Criteria


PSTET-I Eligibility Minimum Qualification PSTET-I

10 +2 (or equivalent) with at least 50% (45% NCTE) marks and passed or appearing in final year of 2- year Diploma in Elementary Education/ 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) / 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)
OR

Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

PSTET-II Eligibility Minimum Qualification PSTET - II (Classes V-VIII)

Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
OR
Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) / 1-year B.ED (Special Education).
OR

Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) / 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed/B.Sc.Ed.

PSTET Exam Pattern

As we discussed above, there are two types of papers in Punjab TET. First, Paper 1 for the primary stage (I-V) and the second, for the elementary stage (V-VII).

Nature of Questions

  • Child Development and Pedagogy: The test items on Child Development & Pedagogy will focus on educational psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years.
  • Language  1: Elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  • Language 2: Language 2 will be other than language 1 prescribed in the application form.
  • Mathematics and Environmental Studies: The main focus on concepts, problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of the subjects. The questions approach for Mathematics and Environmental Studies are from topics of Classes I to V. But the difficulty level could be up to matriculation level.

Nature of Questions:

  • Child Development and Pedagogy:  The test items on Child Development & Pedagogy will focus on Educational Psychology of teaching and learning relevant to the age group of 6-11 years.
  • Language 1: Elements of language, communication and comprehension abilities.
  • Language 2: The Language 2 will be a language other than Language 1 prescribed in the application form. 
  • Mathematics and Science: Concepts, Problem-solving abilities and pedagogical understanding of the subjects. This section contains 30 questions form mathematics and 30 questions form science.
  • Social Studies/Social Science: The questions areas namely, History, Geography, Civics and Economics.

PSTET Passing Marks

The passing marks for Punjab TET category-wise given below in the table. The passing marks follow as:

Validity Period of PSTET Certificate 

The validity period of PSTET certificate is 7 years from the date of examination in accordance with NCTE Guidelines.
