NTA UGC NET Exam Eligibility 2019: Educational Qualification & Age limit

The National Eligibility Test is the most sought exam after completion of post-graduation. The exam is conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) on the behalf of UGC to make candidates eligible for the post of Assistant Professors and to distribute the awards of JRF.

UGC NET Exam Eligibility Criteria

There are two eligibility conditions for this exam, required educational qualifications and age limit for Junior Research Fellowship.

1. Required Education Qualifications

Candidate to become eligible for UGC NET exam has to full fill the following two conditions.
  • Any Candidate who has completed their Master's degree or equivalent examination from the recognised University/Institution by University Grant Commission.
  • Candidate should have at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC (NC)/PWD) in their Master's degree or equivalent (post-graduation).

OBC Non-creamy layer 50 %
SC/ST/PWD 50 %

Candidates also eligible:
  • Who are in the final year of post-graduation.
  • Whose result is still awaited
  • Whose qualifying examinations have been delayed
Such candidates admitted provisionally and they have to qualify their post-graduation with minimum qualification marks within two years from the date of NET result. Otherwise, they shall be treated as disqualified.

Note: Candidate can apply only to the subject of their Post-Graduation.

2. Age Limit & Relaxation

Candidate age for Junior Research Fellowship should not be above 30 years. There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

Relaxation

1. Relaxation up to 5 years is provided for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) SC/ST/PWD and women candidates.
2. Age relaxation also provides to candidates having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in their post-graduation subject and 3 years relaxation permissible to L.L.M. degree holder.

UGC NET Exam Pattern 2019

The whole examination is divided into two papers commonly known as Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 which is the same for all NET aspirants whereas Paper 2 which is based on subject opted by the candidates. Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are objectives in nature.
