HP GK Related to Glacier in Himachal Pradesh. Glacier in Himachal Pradesh is an important topic from examination point of view. In this article, we will discuss some famous glaciers of the Himachal Pradesh. A glacier is a persistence body of dense and hard ice which accumulates at one place over the years. Glaciers are very good source of used water as it starts melting in summer.

Bara Shigri:

Bara Shigri is the largest glacier of the Himachal Pradesh. It is 25 km long and 3 km wide. This glacier is located in the Chandra Valley of Lahaul. It provides water to the Chenab river. The famous Chandratal lake is also formed by this glacier. Altitude of this glacier lies between the 3950m to 4570m.

Bhadal Glacier:

Bhadal Glacier is located in the Pir Panjal range of Kangra districts.It provides water to Bhadal River. The size of Bhadal Glacier suddenly grows up because of sudden and heavy snowfall.


Bhaga Glacier:

Bhaga Glacier is located on the slope of the main Himalaya range in Lahaul area. This glacier provides water to Bhaga River. Bhaga Glacier is 25 Km long. The other Important glacier of Bhaga valley are Lady of Keylong, Mukkila, Milang and Gangstang.

Lady of Keylong:

The Lady of Keylong Glacier is the famous tourist attraction in Himachal Pradesh. The name is Given by Lady Elashainghday. It remains covered with snow throughout the year. The altitude of lady of Keylong glacier is 6061m. 

Mukilla Glacier:

Mukkila Glacier is very beautiful glacier located in Bhaga valley. The altitude of Mukkila Glacier is 6478m.

Chandra Glacier:

Chandra Glacier is situated in the Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. It has been separated by Bara Shigri Glacier. This Glacier feeds the Chandertal lake in Lahaul Spiti.Chandratal Lake is also called Lake of the Moon.

Chandra Nahan glacier:

Chandra Nahan Glacier is located in the North West of Rohru in Himachal Pradesh. The elevation of this glacier is more than 6000m. The famous Chandra Nahan lake is situated in it which provides water to Babbar river.

Sonapani Glacier: 

Sonapani is just 5.5 km from away from kultinala. It can b easily seen from Rohtang pass.
