HP GK Notes- Valleys in Himachal Pradesh

Baspa Valley

Baspa Valley is named after the River Baspa which is a tributary of Satluj River. It lies in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. The major town of this valley is Sangla and It is also known as Sangla valley.


Har ki Doon Valley

This valley is well surrounded by dense forests of pines and attractive mountain peaks. Basically, it lies in the western range of Garhwal Himalayas at an elevation of 3556.

Chamba or Ravi Valley

Chamba Valley is situated at the height of 996m above sea level on the south bank of Ravi river. Ravi river is just 56 km from Dalhousie.The ancient Pahari capital was founded in AD 920 by Raja Sahil Verma who named it after his daughter, Champavati. Inhabitants of this valley are called Chambyal. There are many famous tourist spots situated in this Valley e.g. Lakshmi Narayan temple, Brajeshwari temple, Champavati Temple, Bhuri Singh Museum and Chamera Lake etc. 

Kullu Valley

This is the largest valley in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Beas river flows through the middle of the valley. It is also known as Valley of Gods or Dev Bhoomi. This is the valley which connects Lahaul Spiti with the Rohtang Pass.The Valley is very famous for its handloom. Its colorful and eye appealing woven shawls and caps are very famous among the tourist.

Kangra Valley

This Valley is also known as Veer Bhoomi of Himachal Pradesh. Ravi is the main river of this valley. Dhauladhar Mountain Range is also situated in this valley which separates the Chamba from Kangra.

Kinnaur Valley

This Valley is situated on the Indo Tibetan Border That is why Buddhism Influence can be seen there.

Lahaul Valley

Lahaul valley is situated in the south of Ladakh. It is the combination of Chandra and Bhaga River valley.It is situated at an altitude of 22,745M above sea level. There are number of temples in Lahaul Valley as Hindu as well as Buddhist live there together. 

Parvati Valley

Parvati Valley is situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh.Parvati Valley spread through the eastern direction of the bhunter town of Kullu. The famous village MALANA is situated in this valley. Other tourists spots are Kheerganga, Manikaran, Kasol, and Rudra Nag waterfall etc.

Pin Valley

Pin Valley is basically a national park situated in the Lahaul Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh. In 1987, It has been declared as National Park by Indian Government. This valley is known for trekking. Pin river and Paraiho river are tow main river which flows through this valley.

Pangi Valley

Pangi Valley is remote, rugger and poorly developed area of Himachal Pradesh.Pangi Valley is basically divided into three Valleys i.e. Saichu, Hudan Bhatori and Suarl Bhatori. Saach Pass is situated in this valley which can be accessed only between the June and October because of the heavy snowfall in the valley.

Spiti Valley

Spiti Valley is cold deserted valley situated in the Himalayas. It is spread along the Spiti river.The meaning of Spiti is Middle land because it separates Tibet from India.

Solang Valley

Solang Valley is situated in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. Solang Nala is the famous tourist destination in Himachal Pradesh. Solang Valley is famous for Paragliding, sating, Mountain biking and Parachuting. Snow starts melting in the month of June and skiing is then replaced by zorbing, Paragliding, Parachuting and horse riding.

Malana Valley

Malana is situated in the northeast of Kullu valley. Malana river flows along with this valley. Panji is the famous game of malana. Inhabitant living there are called Malanis. This place is famous for its Opium known as malana cream. Earlier It used to be the most disconnected area of the Himalaya but now it has become the most favourite tourist spot.
