Introduction: UGC NET Paper 1

In this post UGC NET Paper 1 Syllabus, NET exam pattern, cut off required to qualify paper 1, Question Papers and reference of important books are given. UGC NET exam is divided into three parts: Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. The UGC NET Paper 1 Syllabus is same for all aspirants who are preparing for the NET exam.

UGC NET Syllabus

As we know Paper 1, also called General Paper on Teaching and Research Aptitude is an objective type of exam. The main purpose of conducting this paper is to determine the student's Research and teaching efficiency.

UGC NET Paper 1 Syllabus

UGC NET Syllabus Paper 1 comprises of 10 Units. Each Unit carries 5 Questions. It means the total number of questions will be 50. All questions are compulsory, so candidates have to attempt all the Questions. The Following 10 Units are given below:

  • Research Aptitude
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Communication
  • Reasoning (Mathematics)
  • Logical Reasoning
  • Data Interpretation
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • People and Environment

UGC NET Exam Pattern Paper 1

Candidates who are preparing for the UGC NET should be familiar with the exam pattern. This year UGC has changed the exam pattern. According to new Pattern, UGC NET exam paper 1 contains total 50 questions of multiple choice.

Each question carries two marks and maximum marks will be 100. The candidates have to complete the exam in 1 hour 15 minutes.

There is a good news for NET aspirants that there is no negative marking in NET Exam Paper 1.



Exam Pattern According to Syllabus

This time equal weightage is given to all sections by UGC. Here you can see the distribution of questions along with various Units of the syllabus.

According to the new pattern, All questions are compulsory and each section of syllabus contains five questions. Each Section of syllabus contributes 10 marks to the whole.

Cut Off Marks for Paper 1

You should have to obtain the following minimum marks in Paper 1 to be eligible for lectureship and considered for Junior Research Fellowship. In the given table you can check category-wise marks required to qualify Paper 1.

Paper 2 and Paper 3 will be checked only after obtaining the qualifying marks in paper 1. For General category cut off marks is 40 and 35 for OBC (Non-creamy layer) and PWD/SC/ST candidates.

Previous Question Papers Analysis

After studying previous question papers, we provide you, how much each unit has contributed to the question paper of each exam. Number of Questions along with various Units in previous UGC NET exam (Nov-2017, Jan-2017, Aug-2016 and Jul-2016) are shown in the Bar Graph given below.

Section wise Questions

You can see in Paper 1 NET Exam Nov 2017 each section contains five questions. But in previous exams, it was not that case. Another thing you can see on the previous exams that 60 questions were asked and 50 questions had to be attempted except in Nov 2017.

UGC NET Syllabus Paper 2 & Paper 3

As we know there are 84 subjects under UGC NET exam. So Syllabus for Paper 2 and Paper 3 must be different for all subjects.The Syllabus of Paper 2 comprises 10 units. Whereas Syllabus of Paper 3  Comprises 5 Units which is elective in nature. There are 84 subjects you can Download Syllabus According to your Subject.

Paper 2 consists 50 questions of multiple choice (MCQ, Matching Type, True false, etc. ) each carrying 2 marks.
Whereas Paper 3  consists 75 questions of multiple choice each carrying 2 marks.
